History
Dahab, Egypt
Located on the southeastern coast of the Sinai Peninsula along the Red Sea, Dahab began as a small Bedouin fishing village inhabited primarily by the local Muzeina tribe. The name “Dahab,” meaning “gold” in Arabic, is often associated with the golden color of the surrounding desert sands. For generations, Bedouin communities lived in close harmony with the desert and sea, relying on fishing, trade, and guiding travelers through the Sinai. In the 1980s and 1990s, Dahab gradually developed into a popular destination for divers and independent travelers, while still retaining its relaxed atmosphere and strong connection to Bedouin culture.
The coastline around Dahab is famous for its natural swimming spots, where crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and dramatic desert landscapes come together to create some of the most beautiful places to swim in the Red Sea. Many of these locations are easily accessible from shore, making them ideal for snorkeling, freediving, and simply floating in the warm, calm water.
